A Level 2 charger in the garage turns an overnight stop into a full battery. Doing it right means checking that your service can handle the extra load, running a properly sized dedicated circuit, and - if you want a cheaper off-peak rate - wiring it to work with your utility's load control.
We install hardwired Level 2 chargers and NEMA 14-50 outlets for homes and businesses across west central Minnesota, and we've worked through the extra steps that off-peak programs bring.
- Hardwired Level 2 chargers and NEMA 14-50 outlets
- Load calculation to confirm your service can handle it
- Off-peak and load control wiring for utility and co-op programs
- Panel upgrades when the existing service is too small
- State permit and inspection on every install
Real job: EV charger with off-peak load control in Canby
Marcus in Canby wanted a 50 amp outlet for his EV. His home already had an off-peak water heater controlled by an Otter Tail Power load control receiver, so adding the charger meant redesigning that system. We built a new outdoor enclosure with dual contactors, moved the water heater over, prepped the panel and coordinated with the utility. It passed state inspection. See the full project.
Outlet or hardwired charger?
A NEMA 14-50 outlet lets you plug in the mobile charger that came with many EVs and makes it easy to swap equipment later. A hardwired wall charger is tidier, often charges faster, and is the better choice outdoors. We'll help you pick based on your vehicle and where you park.
