Manual Transfer Switches & Interlocks MN
Portable Power, Tuned In
Got a portable generator? Don't run extension cords through open windows. A Manual Transfer Switch or Interlock Kit lets you power your entire home—safely and legally—from a single plug.
Plugging a generator into a dryer outlet (the "Suicide Cord") is illegal for a reason. It sends 240V back up the utility lines, which can electrocute linemen working to restore power. Never do this.
Two Ways to Connect Safely
We offer two code-compliant methods to connect your portable generator to your main breaker panel.
Interlock Kit
Simple & Effective. A mechanical slideplate on your panel cover that prevents the Main Breaker and Generator Breaker from being on at the same time. Cost-effective and powers *any* circuit.
Transfer Switch
Dedicated Circuits. A separate sub-panel with switches for specific circuits (e.g., Fridge, Well, Heat). Good if you want to strictly limit what the generator powers.
Power Inlet Box
The Plug-In Point. We install a weather-rated 30A or 50A inlet box on the outside of your house. Just wheel up your generator, plug it in, and you're powered up.
The Safe Alternative
"Suicide Cord"
- Safety: High risk of shock and fire.
- Liability: You are legally liable for injury to utility workers.
- Code: Illegal in every jurisdiction.
Interlock / Transfer
- Safety: Mechanical lockout guarantees safety.
- Convenience: Power your furnace and hardwired lights.
- Code: Fully permitted and inspected installation.
