Load Management Receivers & Off-Peak Wiring MN
Off-Peak Control Center
To get the half-price electricity rate, you have to play by the utility's rules. The Load Management Receiver is the device that lets the power company signal your home to "shed load" during times of peak demand.
It's a simple trade. You give the utility permission to turn off your electric water heater or plenum heater for a few hours on high-demand days. In exchange, they give you an unbeatable electrical rate all year round.
What We Install
The receiver is provided by the co-op, but the complex wiring behind it is our job.
Receiver Unit
Usually a gray box mounted near your meter. It listens for a radio signal sent by the utility. When it hears the command, it opens a relay.
Contactors
The receiver can't handle the heavy current of a furnace. We install a separate Off-Peak Panel or contactor box. The receiver tells the contactor to click open, cutting power to the heavy loads safely.
Seamless Handoff
When the receiver cuts your electric heat, your system must know to fire the gas backup immediately. We wire these interlocks so you never feel a drop in temperature.
